Volleyball sponsorship heats up

Volleyball sponsorship heats up

One of Scotland's leading central heating specialists, Saltire, has served up a winner by sponsoring the volleyball competitions at the Games.

David Black, Managing Director of Saltire Facilities Management Ltd, said: "The Games are a wonderful opportunity to put Lanarkshire on the map and as a Lanarkshire-based company we are pleased to be able to support the event and help make it an outstanding success."

The Games have had a great deal of support from local companies who realise the importance of bringing the Games to Lanarkshire and Scotland in general.

Jim Smith, the co-chair of the Games committee, said. "The generous support of Saltire for the volleyball event is a real boost and we really appreciate their contribution."

The two large halls at Wishaw Sports Centre will host the three-day event, which will see 125 players from 11 countries taking part in the volleyball competition which is one of the nine sports at the biggest sporting event ever to be held in Lanarkshire.

The boys and girls Team Lanarkshire Volleyball squads have really gone from strength to strength since they were brought together just over a year ago.

Greg Coburn, head coach of the boys' team, said: "The players have been exceptional to work with over the last year and have displayed a very professional work ethic and attitude. This has prepared them well for the Games and since joining the programme a number of them have also been selected to represent their country at other Volleyball events."

The boys finished second and the girls were fourth in the Scottish Junior National League this year at the under 16 level.
